To leash, or not to leash.

So how do you all feel about those toddler backpack leash thingys? On one hand I think that they don't teach your child anything and may actually be causing more of a problem in the long run and on the other hand they look like a gift from God. What do you think bloggerville peeps?

I think they are a pain in the buttocks...We tried one in Lagoon and if it was on Keaton was highly annoyed-but it served it's purpose to threaten him with it.

I'm not a fan.

We have one of the ones that just goes around Aiden's wrist and then around our wrist. He likes being able to walk by himself, but he also still tends to bolt sometimes, so it makes me feel a little more comfortable. He doesn't like wearing it most of the time, but I think that he is learning that if he won't behave himself while he's walking, he has to have the "leash".

We don't use one but we have to have a point of contact with Torin at all times. We hold his hand and if he refuses I tell him I'll pick him up and carry him. The sad thing is....he'd much rather hold my hand and behave then be carried.

I had one when Logan was about two and used it when we were traveling in airports. That is the only time i used it. I think they need to know not to wonder off...

So, I have been mulling over this one.
I know there are lots of reports out there that say the leash is actually harmful to kids. They can bruise them and all.

After having a daughter whos wrist goes out if she pulls to hard while holding hands... I have debated this.

I think the harm in the way of bruising and not teaching the child to follow your rules out ways ease of use.
